A Ghanaian businesswoman known as Vivian Akosua Serwaa has granted an interview with a Youtuber known as Vanessa Kanbi where she opens up about her journey to owning a successful aluminium and real estate company.

Maame Akosua recounted that she started her real estate business about four years ago.

Experiencing a loss

According to Akosua, losing her father very early in life meant she had to step in to take care of the family hence she started by dealing with any item that could sell quick.

She sold things like toothpaste, toffees, plastic bags, children's wear, bread among other things.

Serwaa believes she was born to be an entrepreneur as she could come up with various business ideas growing up.

Eventually, she got into textiles and started making good money from them.

The big break

In 1990, she was invited by Akosombo Textiles Company (ATL) to be one of their main distributors.

The ATL offer came when she was 30 years and she eventually became their second biggest distributor coming after Unilever.

Having gained great money as a distributor, Akosua diverted her attention to the manufacturing of aluminium pots and pans after recognising the gap in that market.

She currently has 40 employees.

The next big thing

Her next business venture was a real estate company.

The idea for a real estate company came about when she purchased a house and realised it didn't much up to what she wanted and so she decided to renovate it.

Prior to that, she used to make designs for textile companies as well hence she knew she could translate that into designing homes, Akosua added.

The multifaceted woman had a lot more to say about her interesting journey.

Fishmonger becomes millionaire

Recently, TUKO.co.ke highlighted the story of Njabulo Mbokane who is the co-owner of two successful farms, but it did not happen overnight or without a lot of hard work.

She started off with an interest in agriculture which turned out to be her passion, something she discovered a little later in life.

Before becoming a success story, Njabulo mostly sold fish and chips on a street corner near schools for a living.

It was not a bad way to earn money, as she made about KSh 2800 a day, W24 reported.
